I in no way understand how to do this, please homework help I NEED EXPLINATIONS , NOT JUST ANSWERS?

The Directions are: Every sentence in the paragraph below violates some principle of good persuasive writing. Revise the paragraph, following the directions at the end of each sentence; use your imagination where necessary. Type the revised paragraph in the text box provided below. CAUTION: BEFORE BEGINNING WORK, READ THE PARAGRAPH AND DIRECTIONS

CAREFULLY.

The Honors Association in this school is all eggheads; they should do something practical for a change. (Eliminate the stereotype and state your opinion more reasonably.) Specifically, I recommend they buy the football team jackets each year. (Come up with a more appealing project for this audience.) This would meet a real need in our school. (Be more specific in this background statement.) The other clubs around here all do something. (Introduce a limiting word; give one or two specific examples to prove this fact.) The most important reason is that the members of the association claim that service to the school is one of their goals. (If it is so important, move this sentence and the next one to just before the call to action.) If they can't buy those jackets, they should just disband. (Include the project you used above; modify the either-or-approach.) Nonmembers think the association should be more active. (Use a transition to introduce this idea; add a limiting word; add authoritative opinion --perhaps from the officer of another club.) The faculty thinks the association should be more active. (Use a transition; add a limiting word; add authoritative opinion.) That is all I have to say. (Replace this with a forceful call to action.)

The textbook barely ******* explains how to write a persuasive paragraph.

Explain it to me, And revise this paragraph so I can finish up the rest.I in no way understand how to do this, please homework help I NEED EXPLINATIONS , NOT JUST ANSWERS?
The idea is to write a better paragraph than the one you are starting with. Each sentence has something wrong with it. After the sentence you are being told, generically, how to fix the sentence.

For example:

The Honors Association in this school is all eggheads; they should do something practical for a change. (Eliminate the stereotype and state your opinion more reasonably.)

How would you write a better sentence than this? Maybe something like.

The Honors Association should be encouraged to participate more within the school.

Specifically, I recommend they buy the football team jackets each year. (Come up with a more appealing project for this audience.)

What might be more appealing to someone involved in the Honors Association?

Just a quick glance and it looks like you'll have about 8 of these to write. Break it down and think how can I make this sentence better based on the suggestion given.I in no way understand how to do this, please homework help I NEED EXPLINATIONS , NOT JUST ANSWERS?

Will you be celebrating St Georges Day?

St George's Day is celebrated by the several nations, kingdoms, countries, and cities of which Saint George is the patron saint, including England, the old kingdoms and counties of the Crown of Aragon in Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Georgia, Serbia, Bulgaria and the cities of Moscow, Genova, Beirut and Victoria in Malta and many others where it is a day of joy and believing in God, people will go out and build a fire and play around it, people will bless their houses, fields, their children and everything around them with water as it was the holy water. St. George's Day is known as the Feast of St. George by Palestinians. St. George's Day is a provincial government holiday in Newfoundland, Canada. St. George is also the patron saint of the Scout Movement, who have been celebrating St. George's Day on April 23 since its first years, and St. George is the patron saint of many other organizations.

For England, St. George's Day also marks its National Day. Most countries which observe St. George's Day celebrate it on April 23, the traditionally accepted date of Saint George's death in 303 A.D. Interestingly, April 23, 1616 was also the date of death of English playwright William Shakespeare.

St George's Day was a major feast and national holiday in England on a par with Christmas from the early 15th century until the end of the 18th century after the union of England and our Scottish brothers. In recent years the popularity of St George's Day appears to be increasing again gradually. In 2009 Mayor of London Boris Johnson spearheaded a campaign to encourage the celebration of St George's Day. Andrew Rosindell, Conservative MP has been putting the argument forward in the House of Commons to make St George's Day a public holiday. Although Saint George is the Patron Saint of England, it is believed that St George was not English and it is not certain if he visited England or not, although legend has it that St George was born in Coventry at Caludon Castle in Wyken, though some say he was born in Cappadocia, an area which is now in Turkey.

A traditional custom at this time was to wear a red rose in one's lapel, though with changes in fashion this is no longer common. Another custom is to fly or adorn the St George's Cross flag in some way: pubs in particular can be seen on April 23 festooned with garlands of St George's crosses. However, the modern association of the St George's Cross with sports such as football, cricket and rugby means that this tradition is rare outside this context. It is customary for the hymn "Jerusalem" to be sung in cathedrals, churches and chapels on St George's Day, or on the Sunday closest to it. St George's Day is traditionally the occasion when the Queen announces new appointments to the Order of the Garter.

There is a growing reaction to the recent indifference to St George's Day. Organizations such as English Heritage, and the Royal Society of Saint George (a non-political English national society founded in 1894) have been joined by the more prominent St George's Day Events company (founded in 2002), with the specific aim of encouraging celebrations. Other organisations like the St George Unofficial Bank Holiday are encouraging people to be more proactive by taking the day off work (an unofficial bank holiday). They seem to be having some effect. On the other hand, there have also been calls to replace St George as patron saint of England, on the grounds that he was an obscure figure who had no direct connection with the country. However he represents the triumph of good over evil - something which every true and decent Englishman and Briton holds passionately in his heart. Besides, St Patrick was from Wales (now the UK) not Ireland.

I am organising a drink down at my local pub where we will all play our favourite English music like Fairport Convention, The Jam, The Kinks, Beatles, Stones, Bowie and Elgar!

Anyone else going to fly the flag or at least celebrate with an English ale or a G%26amp;T ??? :)Will you be celebrating St Georges Day?
St George's Day will be celebrated by me.

I don't give a two friggs about Political Correctness, if my St George's flag or Englishness offends anyone they should really think about moving country.

I remember when i was young in the scouts, we used to parade on St George's day and pledge our Allegiance to The Queen.

Being English is to win the lottery of life, I am very proud of what my nation has achieved and its place in the world.

Great Englishmen include, Sir Winston Churchill, Admiral Lord Nelson, Issac Newton, Charles Darwin, William Willberforce, Sir Walter Raleigh, William Shakespear, Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
Don't like drinking on my own. Most people down here, other than Catholics, don't even know what a church is! The English will drink because they're in the pub anyway, not because of St. George. Will you be celebrating St Georges Day?
'TIMMY' is a foul RACIST.

Yes I will certainly be celebrating with my multi coloured friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and what the HECK is

'Squeeky Guinee Pig'

going on about... wot a load of rubbish - so wot?
Nope, but on St. David's Day I will eat a leek, stand on a chair, and drink a firkin of ale! Will you be celebrating St Georges Day?
Nope....
Never heard of it, thanks for all the info, but now I need a nap!
hell yeah
St Patrick may not have been born in Ireland but he lived most of his life there and made a significant contribution to Irish history and culture.

St Andrew did not come from Scotland but he is buried there.

St George was not English, he came from the Middle East and if he were living today groups like the BNP and their fellow-travellers would not make him welcome here in the UK.

On the other hand he was a Christian martyr who was put to death for speaking out against religious persecution. That is what he should be remembered for, because the issues that he faced up to are still relevant today.

Enjoy your celebrations.
I've yet to hear of St. George's Day to date :) That said, here in America we always need another day to drink LOL. St Patty's has just passed and we're out of luck until May (Cinco de Mayo) and then the 4th of July. Maybe April will help us out here :)

Thanks again, my dear history buff, for the informative post. It's always a pleasure!
Yes I will , since I celebrate my nameday :)

I am Greek and my name is Giorgos (George in english), and here in Greece namedays are very important, friends and relatives call you to give you wishes, they come over your house to bring presents, you offer drinks, food etc etc etc.
Yes. Let's all celebrate the achievements of the white man!

How does ownership of the NFL work?

According to wikipedia:

The National Football League (NFL) is the largest Professional Football league in the United States. It is an unincorporated 501(c)(6) association controlled by its members

========

I understand that each NFL team has an owner (Steelers - Rooney family, Raiders - Al Davis, Dolphins - Wayne Huizenga, etc.) but I don't understand how the actual NFL entity operates.

When the NFL earns money, does it get distributed to each team?

If the NFL were near bankruptcy, would each team's owner kick in money to keep it afloat or could the NFL itself go bankrupt while each NFL team remains viable and even join a newly-formed league? How does ownership of the NFL work?
yes, they have an agreement that splits the tv money between all members. they are all equal members of the league with equal say and they vote on the commissioner who handles the day to day business of the league and resolves problems between the teams. How does ownership of the NFL work?
I am speculating here, but I think the NFL operates as its own entity. Meaning, if half of the teams in the NFL wanted to create their own league they could. But, the NFL typically owns all of the merchandising and tv/radio rights, meaning they hold the large contracts. I'm pretty sure the teams/players are getting a cut, obviously, but that is how they pull their money in. Prime example is the NFL not letting Chad Johnson change his name on the back of his jersey because of merchandising rights. Technically he could have changed his name but he would have had to purchase every "Johnson" jersey that was currently on the rack. Costing him over 2 millions dollars.

    Bishop, Daryl

    Birth Year : 1950

Daryl Bishop was born in Louisville, Kentucky. In 1969, he was the first African American to play basketball for the University of Kentucky, playing a few games as a walk-on, then withdrawing from the team. He had a more successful career as a defensive back on the football team. At that time at UK, football players could not play until their sophomore year. In spite of only playing three years, Bishop's career at UK was phenomenal. He holds the UK career record for most pass interceptions (14) and return yardage (376). He made more tackles (348) than any defensive back in UK history. He is also remembered for the 43-yard interception return touchdown in the 1971 win over Vandy and the 97-yard touchdown return against Mississippi State. Brock, James "Jim"

James Brock was the second head basketball coach at William Grant High School (WGHS) in Covington, Kentucky, coaching there from 1955 to 1965. Like other African American school teams in Kentucky, WGHS was a member of the Kentucky High School Athletic League (KHSAL). The counter league, Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA), was for whites only until school integration began in the mid-1950s. The 1956-1957 WGHS team was the first African American basketball team to win a district tournament in the KHSAA tournament. As more African American students were allowed to attend the formerly all white schools, there was an impact on the pool of high school athletes that had been restricted to the all black schools. In 1965, the year that William Grant High School was closed, the basketball team won only five games. The season was a far cry from the winning seasons that had garnered the school a win-loss record of 185-69 during Brock's years as head coach. With the closing of William Grant, Brock moved on to Cincinnati, where he continued to successfully coach high school sports. James Brock was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Black Hall of Fame and the KHSAA Hall of Fame in 2000. For more see Shadows of the past, by L. Casey played in 95 games, scoring 125 total points. He then was an assistant coach under Clem Haskins for five years at Western Kentucky University until 1986, when he became an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky. Casey was the third former player to become an assistant coach at UK and the first African American to do so. Will coming out change my frienship with him?

I'm a 16 soon to be 17 year old, going into my junior year of high school. Only two people know that i'm gay my older brother and sister no one else. Well I decided to come out and i'm going to start with my best friend. My best friend and I have been best friends since like the sand box. You know how in Jennifer's body she says sand box love never dies well in are case that is true. I really want to tell him, and I'm pretty sure he will be ok with it. I'm just worried that are friendship will change, we are extremely close. We spend almost all of are time together, we sleep in the same bed when we sleep over which is more than half the week. When we watch movies at home i'll lay on his chest or he'll lay on mine and the other will have their arms wrapped around them. We hold hands when we're out, when we go to the movies he'll usually put his arm around me, he also does it when we're out eating. He also has me wear his lettermen jacket when i'm cold.

How can I come out to him and make sure that are friendship stays the same? I really don't want this to change a thing, will it?

He is like popular football god jock guy, i'm kind of popular by association but i'm very shy and artistic. Will coming out change my frienship with him?
If your friendship is as strong as it sounds, your sexual orientation (or his, for that matter) won't matter. You might want to be prepared to answer his questions, because he may have some. He may also be a little uncomfortable at first, but if you're honest and patient, you should be fine.

It may not be easy, but it will be worth it.

    Good luck.
If you guys relationship is the way you say it is, then he shouldn't stop being your friend because of your sexual orientation. He'll accept you if he is truly your friend.

    * Sidenote - And he may be gay, too*Will coming out change my frienship with him?
Wow, this also depends on how long you kept it from him. And you should also know how he react to gay men. Good luck
go to a psychiatristWill coming out change my frienship with him?
sounds like hes gay too and sounds like he gives you a *****
    hi
Your relationship probably will change, but maybe it will change for the better. You have no way of knowing until you tell him. It's important that you be true to yourself, and honest with your closest friend. If you come out and it harms your relationship then your relationship wasn't what you thought it was. On the other hand, it certainly sounds like he's in the same boat.

    Best of luck!
this happened to someone i know but these guys were only friends they wouldnt touch hands or anything but would sleep at each others house but not alone their were other friends too. so when he came out none of is friends stopped talking to him they said they knew already but it was all cool... to me it sounds like your friend is also gay by the way you write about him maybe im wrong. You should tel him whats goin on he will be your friend if he is a true friend. because true friends are with you no matter what!
honestly, i think you should ask him how he feels about yu. if you two are holding hands in public and he puts his arm around you and lets you wear his jacket then he might be gay too. if not, then just let him know that you are. if you like him, you should tell him and if you don't then tell him that yea your gay but you don't like him. but in all honesty, it sounds like you two are in the same mind set.
it kind of sounds like he has a crush on you a little.

i would say it would change a little he could either by the sounds of it come out also or he could stop doing sweet things for you for a while thinking he's leading you on. but if you guys are true friends he won't let this mess up your guys friendship. but i think no matter what it will change your relationship with him a little.

Wooow you have a great resume going! Nice academics especially. Congrats on those great SATs! Also, it seems like you have good extracurriculars. I'd say as long as you have some good recommendations and a nice essay, you have a good shot of getting in! (By the way, I assume you mean University of Pennsylvania and not Penn State).

Hey, this is funny because guess what? I'll be going to the University of Pennsylvania this fall. I was over there for a summer course last year and I fell in love with the campus. Man, you seem to be in pretty good shape! You're doing well. You beat me on the SAT! I got a 2130 because I suck at Math. However, it didnt really matter that much because Im an international student and I live in a third world country and people from my school get really low SAT scores...so they were probably like "yo, girl lives in Nicaragua, lets help her out" but anyway. I think youre in really good shape! Apply Early decision!

Philadelphia is a great city. The Quad (where most freshmen students live) is a great place to be at. All the parties go down over there. Hockey is apparently big at Penn. Sports are a big part of Penn...so apply!

If you need any more information on Penn, I'd be more than glad to give you some help. If you just want to talk about application stuff, I can help you out! I suppose you could email me to humansarescary@gmail.com

It must be such a relief for you to find out it's not only Football Commentators who say the stupidest things !

There's always one. This has got to be one of the funniest things in a long time. I think this guy should have been promoted, not fired

This is a true story from the Word Perfect Helpline, which was transcribed from a recording monitoring the customer care department. Needless to say the Help Desk employee was fired; however, he/she is currently suing the Word Perfect organization for "Termination without Cause".

Actual dialogue of a former WordPerfect Customer Support employee. (Now I know why they record these conversations!):

Operator: "Ridge Hall, computer assistance; may I help you?"

Caller: "Yes, well, I'm having trouble with WordPerfect."

    Operator: "What sort of trouble??"

Caller: "Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words went away."

    Operator: "Went away?"

    Caller: "They disappeared."

Operator: "Hmm So what does your screen look like now?"

    Caller: "Nothing."

    Operator: "Nothing??"

Caller: "It's blank; it won't accept anything when I type."

Operator: "Are you still in WordPerfect, or did you get out??"

    Caller: "How do I tell?"

Operator: "Can you see the C: prompt on the screen??"

    Caller: "What's a sea-prompt?"

Operator: "Never mind, can you move your cursor around the screen?"

Caller: "There isn't any cursor: I told you, it won't accept anything I type."

Operator: "Does your monitor have a power indicator??"

    Caller: "What's a monitor?"

Operator: "It's the thing with the screen on it that looks Like a TV. Does it have a little light that tells you when it's on??"

    Caller: "I don't know."

Operator: "Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where the power cord goes into it. Can you see that??"

    Caller: "Yes, I think so."

Operator: "Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's plugged into the wall.

    Caller: "Yes, it is."

Operator: "When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two cables plugged into the back of it, not just one??"

    Caller: "No."

Operator: "Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and find the other cable."

    Caller: "Okay, here it is."

Operator: "Follow it for me, and tell me if it's plugged securely into the back of your computer."

    Caller: "I can't reach."

Operator: "Uh huh. Well, can you see if it is??"

    Caller: "No."

Operator: "Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over??"

Caller: "Oh, it's not because I don't have the right angle - it's because it's dark."

    Operator: "Dark??"

Caller: "Yes - the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in from the window.

Operator: "Well, turn on the office light then."

    Caller: "I can't."

Caller: "Because there's a power failure."

Caller: "Well, yes, I keep them in the closet."

Operator: "Good. Go get them, and unplug your system and pack it up just like it was when you got it. Then take it back to the store you bought it from."

Caller: "Really? Is it that bad?"

Is Hillary fit to run this country - do you want a President that cries ALL THE TIME?

Picture of Hillary crying yet again - what the heck?

I was the President of our PTA for 4 years, First Woman President of our Football Booster Club for 3 years, the VP of our Homeowners Association for 2 years, AND I am involved in various other leadership roles. I have to tell you...I do not cry at my events. I am an emotional person and I cry watching my kids go to Prom BUT I do not cry in my leadership roles...

http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/slideshow/鈥?/a>Is Hillary fit to run this country - do you want a President that cries ALL THE TIME?
No, I do not want a president that cries all the time. Emotion should be keep in check. She can cry her eyes out when she gets home, but NEVER on camera!!! Now that we know she is a crier, how many times will we see her crying when they bring the bodies home from Iraq and Afghanistan? She didn't cry when she was First Lady and her husband cheated on her. She's a phony.
Wow, you are awesome. Is Hillary fit to run this country - do you want a President that cries ALL THE TIME?
This explains alot. President of the PTA LOL

Are you actually comparing a presidential campaign to a petty job like yours.
I don't care if my president has emotions. I'd like to have a person for a president, not a robot. Is Hillary fit to run this country - do you want a President that cries ALL THE TIME?
    Yawn:O
I think leader of the PTA and the booster club doesn't quite compare with Hillary's situation.

I would add that many different male presidents have teared up -- including Bush. Why the double standard?
Big deal! She cried! Get over it you shemale!
Those post menopausal years can be rough.
There isn't anybody left running in the lead who isn't a major step up from Bush, and silly people elected him twice.
Good for you. No offense but I thought you were a man with a wig and a dress on in your pic. People put strange pics up sometimes. Everyone has their own opinions and it's sad that they feel the need to push them on other people.
Well...if my choice is a president that cries....or one that puts us 9 trillion dollars in debt...ill take the crier
It honestly doesnt bother me. Of course I know with her it isnt real. Hillary is an ice queen. No tears come unless she wants them to.

But if it were real, I wouldnt mind as long as it wasnt happening every time she got on camera. I dont expect a woman to be a man... nor do I want them to be in that respect.
I really want to answer this but I just CAN'T STOP LAUGHING!
That's not the issue. Her right wing poktics are. Still she's a lesser evil when compared to Bush or McCain OBAMA 2008
I thought we all ran through our opinions of her first instance of crying quite some time ago and reached the conclusion that it doesn't really matter.

Must it be harped on again?
Is that all it takes to lead a country? For some strange, unrealistic reason I thought it was experience, knowledge, and credentials.

I personally wouldn't vote for her, but a petty reason like yours is not my reason why.
she cries for manipulation of votes only. I don't see Hillary as a "delicate" female. I think she could rip McCains head off with her bare hands, loll.
She's an excellent actor and knows that most people think crying all the time is a virtue as a leader. Many women I've talked to said they think we need a nurturing, loving, sensitive person in politics *gag*. The last thing we need is the President breaking down and crying when bin Laden is killed because it saddens her that a life, such a precious life, was just taken.
This has been tough for her

She thought it was a easy ride...never thought Obama had a chance. He surprised her. She thought it would be all over before Super Tuesday.

She has been over working, stressed, and shocked...besides Clinton's do not adjust to losing.

They do not play well with others.

She was showing she is human

    which many wondered
I would much rather have a President who cries all the time, Rather than one who may want to destroy this country while praying to Mecca several times a day!
Real people do cry. If you do not then you are some kind of psycho. Actually I have seen the tapes and they were hardly crying. Abraham Lincoln was known to cry over the terrible things happening during the Civil War. And Lincoln was the best human being this country ever produced. Where is he now when we need him most?
Her crying is the least of our problems! She is not qualified in any area to be in the oval office! Look at her record! She failed at Healthcare! Praise God for that! She's been caught up in crooked deals, worked with crooked Fund Raisers, and the list goes on and on and on. We need to send her home along with Obama.
excellent comparison, reactions as booster club president are so relevant to the presidential responsibility. Don't get me wrong , I admire you civic involvement, but give me a break.....

But beyond that, better a pres who cries than a pres who lies.
Run for President of the U.S. Then come tell us your story.
she doesnt cry THAT much, but the media will replay that shi*t over and over...

    Save America!

    Vote Clinton!!!

    cheers!
    Nothing wrong with crying.

    Especially for women.

But doing it in front of a camera in public

    is

    tres American.
They got the caption wrong, she's crying because she can't feel her face anymore from all the botox.
    NO.

    sure woman CRIES.

But a PRESIDENT running, HAS to be strong, If she cant be strong now, how can she be strong for our country?

Shouldn't FIFA get rid of Mr Blatter once and for all?

So that the world can be a much better place to live in.

    Blatter wants foreign owner rules

Blatter wants the European Union to work with Uefa over foreign ownership

"Something has to be done about these billionaire owners," Blatter told reporters at the European Parliament.

"These days you can buy a club as easily as you buy a football jersey. There is something wrong and that's why I ask the European Union to act.

"This is not just about England where the problem is acute. This will spread across Europe."

The acquisition of Manchester City by the Abu Dhabi United Group in September made them the latest Premier League team to benefit from wealthy foreign investors.

There must be better control of football's finances otherwise there will be big financial difficulties in the future

Blatter, who is concerned at the fate of such clubs should the economic downturn affect foreign owners, met EU lawmakers on Monday to discuss overseas investment in football, among other issues.

"Some of these owners prefer horse racing, others like to buy a Formula One team, now buying a football club is the big attraction," he said.

Blatter added that while there was "no single remedy", he believed owners should have an association with the area before buying a club.

"There are national laws in Switzerland, for example, when you buy property or make an investment, you must prove yourself," he explained. "You have to prove your link with the area.

"We must ask ourselves about what motivates these owners and are they really interested in the game or just making money?

"There must be better control of football's finances especially in the difficult climate we are facing. I urge Uefa to work with the EU to tighten up the rules, otherwise there will be big financial difficulties in the future."

Liverpool's American owners delayed the building of a new stadium as the global economic crisis took hold, and Manchester United's shirt sponsors, AIG, had to be rescued by the US Federal Reserve in September. Shouldn't FIFA get rid of Mr Blatter once and for all?
yes and Man U should get a new sponcer they are making america go broke :)

    MLB Question?

Do you think that it would be a good decision for the MLB association to add two expansion teams to the American League and that way everything could be evened out for example football and basketball have even teams on both side like AFC/NFC and NBA East and NBA West. if you think that they should add two teams, would it be wise to add them to AL West and AL Central? that way its 32 teams.MLB Question?
I think all divisions should have the same number of teams. Possible solution: Take Houston and move them to the AL West.
The MLB is very careful with it's expansion which is why they have avoided over-expansion like I think the NHL has done and currently the economy is not favoring expansion, but at some point I hope to see 16 teams in each league. I don't think inter-league play should happen every day, so keeping the leagues with even numbers (rather than 15 and 15) is the way to go. I like the wild card, it rewards good teams, and the wild card teams are often the most exciting to watch, so they need to keep 3 divisions unless they add another round to the playoffs, but that gets too long and messy. I don't think it's that big of a deal having 16 %26amp; 14, expansion should be because the market and talent pool are growing, not just to even things out.MLB Question?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Furthermore, eliminate all of the previous expansion teams. High quality teams are a must for the future of Major League Baseball. There are already way too many teams and too few quality players. This permits the few real super stars to demand and receive ridiculous salaries to play in a stadium where three quarters of the seats are always empty. No matter how great their ability, a superstar player can rarely do much to help when there's 8 other mediocre players on the field. There will always be a finite number of superstars, more teams will only spread them thinner. Who knows, maybe the Dodgers can return to Brooklyn, Washington will again be home to the Senators, Toronto can get back to playing serious hockey, and baseball players will stay on the same team long enough to learn their names.
No. God no. The talent (in partilcular the pitching talent) is so watered down right now. The #5 pitchers and 1-3 of the relievers on most teams aren't talented enough to really play past the AAA level but the MLB teams don't have any choice but to have them on the roster because they don't have any other choice. Expanding would be absolutely detrimental to the league right now. The small market teams that have enough trouble competeing as it is and would be put in an absolutely no win situation if more teams were added. Expansion is the worst thing MLB could do at this time.MLB Question?
I think it'd be a fine decision. I don't like the 4 team AL East division, as it seems like an easier road to the postseason. You couldn't simply move an NL Central team to the AL East however because that would entail an interleague game every single day.

Baseball is a game of differences though, from the DH rule to different ballpark dimensions, and that is in part what makes it so great.
right now is not a good time to expand, but your point is well taken. i'd say in the next decade, mlb, could add two more teams. cities often mentioned are Portland, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Oklahoma City and Charlotte. Once 2 of these cities are picked then you can figure out how to realign the divisions.
If they were to add 2 more teams I would realign the leagues how the NFL has its conferences now. Four divisions in each league, four teams in each division. The only problem is they would have to reformat how the games will be played during the regular season.

Your resume is impressive. That alone will not get you into Princeton though. You must remember, everyone one that is applying will have a resume similiar to yours. You must stand out. Your essay will sway the admissions committee's decision. Remeber those committees are usually made up of faculty and staff. So, do your research. Determine what classes you would like to take there, find the professors that teach them, research the professors, then work your research into your essay. Good luck and let me know how that turns out for you.

An SRS of 100 alumni from population of all living alumni was taken. 64 of the alumni in the sample were in favor of firing the coach. Let p represent proportion of living alumni who favor firing the coach.

Give 95% confidence interval for p.Confidence Interval - Statistics?
    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binomial_co鈥?/a>

Normal approximation confidence interval CI = p+/-Z*sqrt(p(1-p)/N)

where p is the sample proportion, Z is the sigma multiple associated

with the confidence limit, and N is the sample size. In this case

    p=64/100, Z=1.96 (for 95% two-sided) and N=100, so CI = 0.546 to 0.734.

  • Would Tim Pawlenty been a better choice than Palin?

I am a Democrat and will be voting Obama. (In the interest of full disclosure.)

I remember being afraid that McCain was going to choose Tim Pawlenty as his running mate. I thought Pawlenty was the logical choice.

I was pleasantly surprised that he chose Palin instead.

Tim Pawlenty would have brought a lot to the McCain ticket. He would have got the religious right because he is a born again Christian. He has LOTS of foreign policy experience--he has been to Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Poland, China. He was chariman of the National Governor's association. He is a good family man. Loves to watch football. A lawyer. A good debater. Is bright and articulate, AND WAS LOYAL TO JOHN McCAIN FROM DAY ONE in this election.

I am sure he was supremely disappointed and maybe even surprised that McCain passed him up in favor of Palin, who, face it, doesn't have the "chops" that Pawlenty has.

Do you think McCain should have chosen Pawlenty instead?

Pawlenty was THE ONLY VP candidate that had me worried.

I welcome your comments. Thanks.Would Tim Pawlenty been a better choice than Palin?
Logic is not behind the campaign. Money is. Always.

Unless Pawlenty is anti abortion, that would not have gotten James Dobson's money behind McCain.

Big oil is behind McCain and the Republicans. Palin "stood up to big oil". Are you surprised that a recent valid news story now states that Palin NOW will follow the party platform, which is AGAINST windfall profit tax? Get Palin out of Alaska, and they'll quietly stop taxing Alaska oil. Very simple. Already announced.

Let's not mention thinking that women were dumb enough that they would vote for ANY WOMAN, just to prove they could.

McCain was (is) losing. The strategists and money told him who to pick. They failed to vet her, or thought they could bury Troopergate.

Again.. they picked on the basis of ambition and winning. Not who was good for the country.

    edit

    http://money.cnn.com/2008/10/02/news/eco鈥?/a>

in case you don't believe me on the oil angle.
Anyone would've been a been a better choice than Palin. I think Palin was a choice McCain chose to re-energize the party for the convention and it did succeed. But now, people are beginning to see the consequences of his choice. I wish she'd focus on some issues rather than attack the opposition. We don't have time for this.Would Tim Pawlenty been a better choice than Palin?
Republicans are trying to grab demographics again, so he chose Pahlin to get the disgruntled Hillary vote. We'll see if that pans out. Hopefully Americans will make a more educated vote this time around and not elect someone because of minor issues like Gay marriage. Thanks conservative bible belt rednecks, thanks for getting us in debt even more, and thanks for your support for invading a country that had nothing to do with 911 or Osama Bin Laden, but everything to do with crippling the U.S.
Pawlenty would have at least been a reasonable choice, however I don't think he would have been enough for people to overlook McCain and the fact that his administration would be an extension of the failed Bush administration. Would Tim Pawlenty been a better choice than Palin?
Paris Hilton would have been a better choice than Palin.
Howdy Doody would have been a better choice than Palin.
    Maybe so.
    Yes.

With that resume' one would think they would be recruiting you.

However, even with all that, the quality of your answers on the applications and interviews will tip the scales. Remember, even though you're an all-star in high school does not necessarily translate to a university setting.

For the best chance, get your applications in early and be thorough in your answers without being verbose.
i'm sure you'll get into at least one of those, even though top % of your class is usually taken pretty seriously. but i think none of that matters if you show your worth in those essays. What are my chances of getting into UPenn, Johns Hopkins, and Duke?
*zzzz* Oh sorry, I just fell asleep. I attended Hopkins and while I had strong scores and stats I was also INTERESTING. I did interesting things and not merely to look well-rounded on paper. I also had a 4.0.

I am often asked to review apps as an alumni and yours would bore me to tears. Sorry. Maybe the other places might take you, but I'd be surprised if Hopkins did. You're too cookie cutter for such an innovated place. You're boring.
Your extracurricular activites are very helpful in getting you into a college of your choice. But being in the top 10 % of your class is one statistic that is not overlooked. Some unviersities (including ones listed) will not even look at applicants that are not in the top 10 % of their class. Try broadning your search with a college that supports a highly credited field or degree plan that you are thinking about perusing. What are my chances of getting into UPenn, Johns Hopkins, and Duke?

What can I say. Nearly (but not quite) a dead cert of getting into at least one if you apply to all of them. Schools like that have been known to reject people like you - but I suspect the odds will be well in your favor if you apply to them all. That is providing that is an unweighted GPA. If its a weighted one still worth applying but your odds are lower. Check out:

Have you ever heard of ''Cruijffism''.....?

.... some Arsenal fans think that Wenger invented beautiful passing game like Barca is playing.... hehhehee..... I know that this sounds dumb but believe me some of them really think that.... so do you know what Cruijffism or Total Football is..... most known Cruijff's philosophy is ''If you're in possession of the ball the opponent can't score.''.... that's where Barca's obsession with ball possession comes from.... another his idea was ''Three-striker system''....

''More than anything else, Cruyff was always focused on scoring goals. While the emphasis in international football was becoming more and more defensive, Cruyff foresaw a three-striker system, involving two authentic wingers and pinning the opposition in their own half. The key to this concept was a positional game that required the maximum in concentration and skill, based on triangles and governed by the idea that the third man decided what was possible. The crucial thing was to ensure that the ball was continually moved around the pitch.''-uefa.com

MJ, I have followed football for 28 years, believe me when I say that there is nothing fantastic about Arsenal's current style.

Style must always have substance, this is what Arsenal truly lack.

Great teams also must have possess a great defense when required. The great Milan side of the late 80s and early 90s possessed this with abundance. Juventus of the early [art this century possessed it, and Real Madrid did it with aplomb during the same period.

Johan Cruyff is a master, just look at his Ajax teams and the great Barcelona side of the early 90s. Even at the peak of their powers, they could also defend, it wasonly fitting that one of their all-time great defenders, Ronald Koeman, scored the goal that gave them their 1st European Cup.

Even the grand Barcelona side of 2006 could also defend, that was they did in the 2nd leg of the semi-final against Milan.

In English football, there have been certain sides that earn the merit of being outstanding winners of the League title. Take a look at any of the Liverpool sides that won the title in 1976, 1977,1979, 1980, 1982, 1983 or 1984. Look at the players they had, Dalgish, Keegan, Toshack, Ray Kennedy, Alan Kennedy, Graeme Souness, Ian Rush, Mark Lawrenson, Phil Neal, Alan Hansen etc. They could pass the ball to death and yet would also score when the option presented itself.

The Forest team of 1978 that stopped them also possessed this, and will rank with the Liverpool side of 1977, 1979, 1984 and 1986, together with Manchester United teams of 1996, 1999 and 2008 (yes, this year's team was that good) and even the great Everton sides of 1985 and 1987, as the greatest sides of modern English football.

You do not see an Arsenal team in my list, not even the side that won the League unbeaten. They were good but not great.

Rest assured it will take many years before I will concede an Arsenal side that can rank against any 1 of those Barcelona have produced throughout the decades.Have you ever heard of ''Cruijffism''.....?
"Total Football" was the invention and philosophy of Rinus Michels. Cruyff is merely a disciple and one of the highly skilled "tools" that made the philosopy work - along with Van Basten, Gullit and Rijkaard.

Such a shame they never won a world cup.

But most of them were in the AC Milan side 1989/90 which was the finest club side in Europe in the last 30 years up to and including now.

Getting into schools like this depends on a LOT of factors:

    - number of AP courses and other rigorous coursework you took

    - your class ranking

    - your school's ranking

    - the strength of your personal essays on why you want to go to THAT school in particular, not just for the name.

    - the amount of leadership you have shown in your extra-curriculars--more than just a list of them

    - the strength of your letters of recommendation

What is out of your control is the quality of all the other applicants to those schools, and the profile of the freshman class that the admissions committee is seeking to assemble. What are my chances of getting into UPenn, Johns Hopkins, and Duke?
You have a good chance of getting into these universities. Your SAT is quite high (which will help) and your GPA is average for the admitted students at Penn and Duke. You should get into Johns Hopkins for sure, and you are quite certain to get into Duke.

Applying to UPenn School of Arts and Science should not be difficult either. I would recommend you apply early decision to Penn as their acceptance rates go way up. I applied early decision last fall for Penn-Wharton and was accepted with a 1990 SAT, 3.96 GPA, also difficult classes (IB Dip.), and lots of extracurricular. Your admission will really depend if you are able to portray yourself as someone different from the rest. These universities receive thousands of great applications, but chose some over others. These that do better are because they stand out as people with different backgrounds or that could contribute to the university. However, your chances are good and you will most probably get into at least one of these for sure. Good Luck!

WOW. I would say your chances are extremely high. Good for you on working so hard, I hope good things come your way.

Of the three I would say Duke, but then again, that decision really depends on what your interested in.
ur a very good applicant to duke.. doesnt require so much to get in there. good luck! What are my chances of getting into UPenn, Johns Hopkins, and Duke?
I had a very very similar resume applying to colleges (2230 SAT, 4.55 GPA, Quiz Bowl etc.) but I was in the top percent of my class with a tough schedule. I did not get into Penn and I have a family alumna who attends. I would say you are a sure thing for Duke and Johns Hopkins, but Penn is tough. With a huge qualified applicant pool it can be a coin toss. Early decision triples your chances with Penn, and I think you have a great chance for the College or Engineering school. Wharton is a coin toss if you go early decision. Good Luck!
You have good chances. But do not do early decision; I did that when I was applying to Penn's Engineering School and completely regret it now. I should've left my choices open. I would really recommend just applying regular decision, since someone with your stats doesn't need to apply early! Good luck. What are my chances of getting into UPenn, Johns Hopkins, and Duke?
I think that you have a pretty good chance in all of them. Two of the people at my school got into UPenn. One is an African-American male (I don't know if that helps). He is the president of NHS and does tons of volunteering. However, I don't think that he did a lot other extracurricular activities except for maybe baseball and debate club. His GPA was a lot higher though. The other got all around 700s on her SATs but did tons of sports, valedictorian, hall of honor, Student Gov pres. and probably wrote a kick *** essay. Overall, I think that all those schools look for wellrounded students.

I got an answer wrong today in a psychology class and would like some unbiased feedback?

here was the question and my answer below. what is wrong?

Write a definition of Correlation in your own words and then give an example of it. Make your examples very specific and connect them back to your definition. Include whether the correlation in your example is positive or negative and why.

鈥orrelation is the equal or corresponding relationship between two or more things. a measure of the association between two variables.

鈥'm a huge NFL football fan and ex little league coach so it helps me understand many things better if I use football as an analogy. So if turnover ratio is a big determining factor on winning or not winning games this would be a direct correlation on wins if say your team has the highest turnover ratio in the league than turnovers can indirectly correlate to losses due to the amount of times your teams offense has turned the ball over to the opponent.I got an answer wrong today in a psychology class and would like some unbiased feedback?
Your answer is wrong because your example has no variable or condition to have some relationship to them - hence Correlation. - (your example is your own premise of logic)

There are 2 correlation - positive and negative:

    Positive:

I studied hard, that's why I got a good grade in my exam.

    Negative:

    I didn't study, that's why I failed.

The Variable and the correlation is studying, the outcome of studying is the result.

If you are not sure about things, asked your professor or get a tutor. In the long run you will not be wasting your time and failing your classes. When things got to complicated for me in college - getting tutoring was the answer.
Consult and take advice from your psychology teacher.I got an answer wrong today in a psychology class and would like some unbiased feedback?
First of all, you didn't follow the question's instructions very well.

You have to be very clear and specific when answering this sort of question. You ought to have had a much longer answer than this- you didn't explain whether the correlation was negative or positive and why.

Here's a website that might explain some things a little better for you, if you don't fully understand correlation yet.

    http://www.nvcc.edu/home/elanthier/metho鈥?/a>
The example is unclear and doesn't show what a correlation is. It also does not explain positive and negative correlations.I got an answer wrong today in a psychology class and would like some unbiased feedback?
You did not include what kind of correlation it was. It should be a negative one. Teams who turn over the ball lose more. Teams who win more turn over the ball less.

    Equitable Wages?

Should college football coaches be paid the same as college volleyball coaches? Should female basketball players in the Women's National Basketball Association be paid the same as their male counterparts in the National Basketball Association? Should men and women be paid the same salaries in every job, or just some? That is, are their jobs of comparable worth? What role should market forces and government in the United States play in determining wages?Equitable Wages?
No, wages should not be equitable--people should be paid what they are worth. Players in the NBA earn more than their female counterparts in the WNBA because the NBA has a larger fanbase, they pack the stadiums with more people, their TV contracts earn more money, the merchandising brings in more money--the players, therefore, are worth more. True, too, college basketball is a bigger industry than college volleyball. But, that doesn't mean women always earn less. Female supermodels earn more than male models, and it's the same reason as I stated earlier--they bring in more money, so they're worth more, plain and simple. Wages are (and should be) determined by market forces, not the government. When government artifically props up wages, it's nothing more than a subsidy that tax payers ultimately pay for.
should males do the homework of females?Equitable Wages?
    no
Performance and value should guide salaries.

College football brings in more money (directly and indirectly) than college volleyball, so the football coach gets more (and should get more). Same thing for professional players and coaches.

WNBA players make less than the NBA because the WNBA makes far less money.

However, that said, if you have 2 people with the exact same qualifications and performance, with all other things being equal, yet one is male, and one is female, then they should make the same wage.

The government should avoid meddling in the setting of wages, except for public employees and in a minimum wage.Equitable Wages?
hmm sounds like we are in an economics class and doing homework eh? that is really your opinion, but based on the fact that ours is a free market system, you need to look at the reason why people are being paid so. The demand of their talent, and the popularity of their sport is what determines their wages, and altering them would be the government putting a price cap or price floor on wages. In the past, this is unsuccessful, and it undermines the idea of a free pricing system.
How much money is brought to a University via football compared to volleyball? Football, and men's basketball to a lesser extend depending on the school, bring in enough revenue to *have* other sports.

So, if a woman was a football coach, then she would deserve the same salary as a man with the same level of experience. But, since few women play football, it is unlikely that this will happen.

The answer for women's sports is similar in that if women's sports generated as much money as men's sports, then the players and coaches should be paid on a similar scale. But, women's sports, like pro basketball, do not generate the same revenue streams as men's sports. So, the justification for equal pay is questionable.

In industries where men and women can produce equivalent product, then the scale should be the same. But, when you have no idea what everyone around you makes, it is difficult to negotiate effectively.
Women coaches paid the same? No and I'll tell you why....it's easy to think the answer is yes based on equal rights but that isn't how these things came to be. Understand that professional sports and college sports are revenue generators for universities and owners (pro sports) as well as all sponsors. Take your basketball example for instance, ever look at the crowds at the NBA versus the WNBA? Millions of viewers tune into NBA games and especially play-offs generating HUGE sums of money by way of ticket sales and endorsements since exposure is guaranteed. The WNBA can't come close to 25% of the total number of attendees or viewers at home compared to NBA (and I hate basketball so I'm not biased!). Therefore it's trickle down economics. The more money there is coming in, the more money there is to pass down to coaches, players, trainers, and so on.

The Government is screwing so many things up in this country and abroad that the last thing I would ever want to see is bureaucracy in the workplace. That would take us one step closer to communism. Should they tell you to practice a certain religion too if there are telling you what your work is worth?
In regards to paying a male and female in the SAME position with the SAME Responsibilities the SAME WAGE -- YES!!!!!! As far as 'entertainment' venues -- they are ALREADY out in the stratosphere -- and unaffordable to the average wage-earner (meaning -- the value of a Scientist is a fraction of the professional sports player - is that FAIR or Equitable -- NO WAY -- the Productive Ability of the Scientist is FAR IN EXCESS of their wages -- and the sports player is being paid wages FAR IN EXCESS of their productive ability).

Should it be a role of Government to be a player in the Wages or setting of Wages -- Specifically for each career field or position -- NO! But as a matter of making sure that folks in the SAME position, with the SAME responsibility and the SAME productive output -- YES, they SHOULD be paid the same wages.

The US Government should stay out of wage negotiations (as should State governments). No, female basketball players should not be paid the same as male NBA players unless they can generate the same gate revenues. No, volleyball coaches should not be paid the same as college football coaches, for the same reason -- the football team fills 30,000 seats, while a volley ball match may draw a few hundred at best. I do think a female football coach should be paid the same a a male football coach, if they have equivalent jobs (and recognize that part of the job is generating revenues).
