San Diego County officials shut down home Bible study

A San Diego pastor and his wife have been told they cannot have a Bible study in their home. The couple says they were interrogated by a San Diego County official, then threatened with ever increasing fines if they refuse to stop the Bible study. (See news article here)



According to the couple's attorney, they were questioned about the Bible study. "'Do you have a regular meeting in your home?" The pastor's wife replied, "Yes." "Do you say 'amen'?" the official asked. "Yes," she replied. "Do you pray?" Again she said, "Yes." "Do you say 'praise the Lord'?" Another "Yes." The official told the pastor and his wife they were in violation of county rules.



The Bible study usually has an average of about 15 people.



A few days later they got a written warning that listed the home Bible study an "unlawful use of land." They were notified to "stop religious assembly or apply for a major use permit," which could cost them thousands of dollars.



Could a small poetry club meet regularly in a home? Apparently, yes. What about a Cub Scout meeting? Evidently, yes. What if they meet regularly to watch Monday Night Football? Obviously, yes.

They were in violation of county laws, they should have got a permit. There would be the same response from the authorities if they were running an evolution study group for 15 people without a permit.

And maybe they had complaints about a lot of cars blocking the road outside their home.

Also, the source was the american family association, who "promote conservative christian values". Did you not think they might be a bit biased?How can this even be legal? Is this Not America?

Freedom of religion is disappearing faster then anything. It is really sad.
Sounds crazy to me but then again I assume you are living in the USA so I suppose anything is possible. Maybe they will ban kids' tea parties next.

San Diego, like other cities in the U.S., want as much money as possible for gatherings. Many municipalities have shut down Bible study groups at this point, because the group in question didn't pay big $ to the local municipality for a "land use permit." It all comes down to the "almighty dollar" in the U.S. sadly.
It is heading exactly as Russia did way back when it got so bad they killed truckloads of Christians, who had to hide out to worship God.

America, that is where you are headed. And judging from most of the responses to this and the one last night on this matter, I would say that is what most deceived Americans want. Russia did not stop there, though. They then proceeded to lock up all churches. Think it won't happen here? Just you wait and see. They have only just begun.



Well let me warn you God-haters of something. Once the government takes that control, it will not stop there. it will continue till you will be the most imprisoned and controlled people of this earth, because God has blessed us so much and given us so much, then the majority have turned their backs on God and actually want true worship stamped out.



Well, then the government will proceed to take your lands, homes, and everything you own. then they will take you for slaves and servants.

They will take your children away from you and make them wards of the state, exactly as Russia did. You think it won't happen? Who ever would have thought our stinking government would try to stop a small group from holding prayer meetings in their own homes?



You should all have been praying for these people, for it they lose that right, you will lose your own rights also. God will not let you get by with sneering at this and thinking they might have made a little noise? What about ball games? You can hear them for miles.

So they might have had a few cars in front? Is that reason to stop a people from praying at home? It is satan at work in the worst kind of way.



You will wish some day that these 'cars' were back out there instead of living in a government-controlled prison house. Just wait till they come and take you newborns to put them into state care, as they did in Russia. Just wait till they make you go work in state farms, instead of your business? think it won't happen? You are wrong. Russia started by stopping home pray meetings.
This sounds like a clear violation of the 1st Amendment.



Were they charging for the group? I could understand them interfering if money was changing hands, as it would fall under various operation of business laws (even if it's classed as part of the Church activities, the fiscal trail has to be transparent). Otherwise I can see no good reason to shut them down.



Edit: You'll find that there are a lot of atheists on the Bible Group's side here. Freedom for all, where it doesn't harm others.

Edit 2: If the first respondandt is right, they may have violated some laws regarding the parking of their vehicles, but that's no reason to shut the group down. Just warn them of fines if they violate parking laws again.

This has nothing to do with Obama, it is the San Diego county government. Why was this one family targeted? Did they have any confrontation with a city or county official and this being a act of retaliation?
