Why do We say "The WWE"?

Just curious. I know We've been Saying it for a long time , but in proper English , it wouldn't sound Right to say "The World Wrestling Entertainment". So Why do We say it with just the Initials?

Other Sports Leagues make it sound Right:

(NFL) The National Football League.

(NBA) The National Basketball Association.

(NHL) The National Hockey League.

Shouldn't WWE be like MLB , and just be called...WWE , and Not "The WWE"?

I've just wondered this for awhile.

Thanks for You thoughts. Why do We say "The WWE"?
It's because people started out with "The WWF" which made sense. The World Wrestling Federation. The "The" stuck after it switched names, is all.

It also depends on the context that is spoken, too.

For example, "The NFL" is also claimed as "NFL" in certain circumstance, despite "The" fitting better.... like

NFL Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers.

Most places take out the "The" despite the word "The" being proper english.

But the real of it is that before it was "The WWF" which made sense, and it stuck. And now you're saying it with "The WWE." Personally, I rarely say "The WWE," but never even flinched when someone else did.

Interestingly, though, you state "proper English" in your post... which leads to the question is "World Wrestling Entertainment" proper english in itself... The company is called World Wrestling Entertainment, Corp. Which actually states a final noun, which the title itself doesn't have. If clarified, then the "The" does make sense in context.

"The World Wrestling Entertainment (corporation)" as it would have to be written down as. Not only that, but WWE can actually still call itself the World Wrestling Federation, it just can't used the moniker "WWF" via the lawsuit. Therefore, if someone used their Stock market trading call "WWFE" it'd make sense to say "The WWE" as well.

OK... I'm done. :)
You only use the term "The" (In this Case) when the subject is being Introduced, presented, acquainted with etc...*example* The Great Kahli, see you Only use "The" when he is being Presented. You can remove the term during a casual convo, *example* "Well I was reading WWE magazine today" instead of "I was reading The WWE magazine today".

I don't mean to sound like a english teacher LMAO...You will probably get bored reading it lol....Why do We say "The WWE"?
Well "THE" sounds like it is the only one which it technically it is.There is only one Wwe.I occasionally Say Wwe Or The Wwe depending on the context however it is manily a bad habit like slurring words and using slang
remember the wwf it worked

the world wrestling federation it worked didt it am i right or not so wwe made it the wwe but i always say wwe i never said the wwe even the wwf i just wwe wwf like thatWhy do We say "The WWE"?
Acronyms usually require the word "the" because they are more akin to an object than a proper name.
Lol Who the heck wants to say that its to long no one wants to say all that or type it soo we just say wwe takes less time
It all started with The WWF, It sounded ok then, THE World Wrestling Federation. We don't say THe TNA either, so maybe we should just say WWE..but I will stick with The WWE
world wide entertainment, fool! please get a life, and stop pretending to be the big show, who is a 445 poound talentless slob!
i dont say The WWE.... i say WWE.... it sound better that way...
Er, I'm not a native speaker. So, I'll just follow how you guys talk.
Yeah,it's better to just say "wwe".
You Are Right But It Is A BAD Habit For Alot Of Us.
Cause that's what its called stupid! Jeez. Lol J/k j/k :)
