Anybody else "fed up" with nfl officiating ?

What can be done about the poor officiating in NFL football ?

I would like to see the nfl players association get involved in the solution ?

Players are making very good money. Would it be out of the question to require the players association to establish a criteria for training and testing candidates as well as establishing wages for officials that would be paid for by the players union or team owners or a combination of both?

Having trained fulltime officials would benefit the sport as well as the players, imo.Anybody else "fed up" with nfl officiating ?
I admit, I was pissed at the officials watching the Super Bowl. But with that said, I don't think officials are getting any worse then they were 5, 10, 20 years ago.

Officiating is simply relying on your best judgement at a very high rate of speed without the benefit of instant replay in slow motion (unless of course it's challenged). The officials know the rules and the league now has instant replay for QA purposes. I don't know where we would benefit by having officials work full time. They are graded every game and they watch the film weekly to see what went right and what went wrong.
Yeah, the officiating in these playoffs has been atrocious. Paid referees should make better calls than that.Anybody else "fed up" with nfl officiating ?
Yea... NFL referees make all refs look bad.

I'm a ref for soccer. I've seen some pretty bad soccer referees, but the football referees make them look good...

THEY NEED MORE TRAINING!!!
I agree the refs need to be full-time paid employees. off-season traning and reviewing films would greatly benefit the crews. this super bowl was a prime example. the steelers had two penalties on their first drive and one more the entire rest of the game. anytime the 'hawks were making progress...out came the flags. statistically any team that lead in time of possession, yards, and turnover margin this year won every game...except the super bowl. that is a prime example of the impact the officials had on the game. a good officiated game is one in which you don't even realize the refs are on the field. they got more face time in the super bowl than both teams combined. the steelers were jobbed in the indy game and the favor was returned in the super bowl. just for the record, i am a fan of neither team. life-long, long-suffering falcons fan.Anybody else "fed up" with nfl officiating ?
Officiating is horrible, not only in the NFL, but everywhere else in proffesional sports.
I 150% agree with you. My favorite team is the Steelers and I am a die hard fan, but even I thought the officiating was unfair to the Seahawks. I wanted to see my team play good and have a good FAIR game. But I guess for all the billions that go into the Super Bowl, we can't have a good one.
It was so pathetic to watch that game. It was because of horrible officiating like that, that instant replay was implimented ... but they messed up the calls even WITH instant replay.

I'm happy for Bettis, but I can't help but feel so bad for the Seahawks. They were totally robbed.
Asker asked: I would like to see the nfl players association get involved in the solution ?

Well, duh... No. I would like to see that the NFL Commissioner resolve the officiating problems, by bringing in new referees from the NCAA.

Answer to this question is very simple. NFL Officiating Headquarter pays the officials the wages, no matter if the Players' Union wants to pay them, Players' Union have no business to pay the officials. In the past, Players' Union have paid the referees to get them to favor their team at their home game. NFL commissioner have found those problems that seems unfair to the opponent, so they ended the Players' Union paying the officials and establish NFL Officiating Headquarter. Under current NFL rules, officials are strictly not permitted to favor a team in a game, even if it is a Super Bowl game or a Pro Bowl game. They are allowed to watch these football games on TV, but they are not allowed to officiate their favorite team.

Trained fulltimes does not solely have full training. Most officials are part-time. There are few full-time officials that works for the NFL, since President Bush have cut a lot of taxes which drives all the full-time jobs out of the country. So, most officials are part-time, and all officials gets the same training, no matter what training they gets. Also, it does not benefit the sport because if the players choose these officials, the game would turn into the home team's advantage. Look at the Steelers/Seahawks Super Bowl game. Officials made a lot of mistakes, yeah, its obvious to me, but we have to play the game. Seahawks was given a challenge by the NFL Commissioner so that way Seahawks don't cheat during the Super Bowl. Seahawks have cheated in the NFC Championship Game because they have covered Steve Smith unfairly, which should have been called for a few defensive pass interference, since there are a lot of contacts between the 4 defenders and Steve Smith. Seahawks also shouldn't have earned the Super Bowl trip, since they have cheated a lot in the regular season as well. They have gotten away more than 100 holdings, which should have been called during the game. Alexander shouldn't have been breaking a Rushing TD record because there are a lot of holdings at the line of scrimmage.

So, here's goes the answers!
Sounds to me like you are a seahawks fan. Half the fans will be upset at any given football game. After all it is human error, and when it is challange there are several people involved with the final call, all of which no the game inside and out. SORRY for your loss better luck next year
All I have to say is "TUCK RULE" It was a horrible call 5 years ago, it still is... And The Pats only won because of that... Bad officiating isn't new...
