How come cricket never really caught on in Ireland?

I don't know anything about cricket, find it confusing even to watch but I wonder why it was never popular here in Ireland? I know we have a national cricket team who did reasonably well in some cricket world cup or something recently. Is it that it's seen as "too" British a game? But so too is rugby - very popular, as is football (soccer) - very popular. Or was cricket viewed as representing the "upper classes" moreso than say football and was there an association (rightly or wrongly) that it was the British (English) "upper classes" who surpressed Irish nationalism the most? Thanks. How come cricket never really caught on in Ireland?
I would surmise it was because it was considered the prevailing sport of the English upper class overlords that were crushing the Irish into the infamous potato famine at the time!
it must have been a fix when the Irish beat Pakistan a few years ago, and their coach bob woolmer paid for it with his life, with all the fix allegations coming out in the last few months you have to wonder how long its been going on and results like a noobie to cricket nation like Ireland can beat a Pakistan team have to also be questioned. How come cricket never really caught on in Ireland?
before 1999 Ireland also beat india. and 7 indian players ware involved in match fixing. all of them ware baned by ICC. so that match was loss by indian not win by Ireland.

and Pakistani players are still suspended not banned!

yes and english are racist in cricket so much!

they are jealous from pakistanis! they can't get a bowler like M. Asif in 150 years!
Ireland is an excellent ODI team now. PR Sterling is batting very well (last 17 matches, he averaged 45.35 with a strike rate of 91). Team consisting of Stirling, GC Wilson, JF Mooney, KJ O'Brien, WTS Porterfield, AR Cusack, NJ O'Brien, DT Johnston, A van der Merwe, WB Rankin and GH Dockrell can give tough fight to the very best teams. How come cricket never really caught on in Ireland?
They are neither good in soccer nor in rugby. But still these sports are popular there. Perhaps they can't understand cricket.
Ireland does not have ICC

international Cricket Council membership~

hope it helped~
I'll be honest. Straight and simple it's looks boring and nobody understands it and it takes too long.
because its shite
