Is the NRA too strong?

For years, the National Rifle Association, representing interests of gun owners, has enjoyed a reputation as one of the most feared lobbies in Washington and state capitals. It mobilizes members to flood lawmakers' offices with mail and phone calls supporting or opposing legislation. It also makes financial contributions to keep friendly legislators in office and oppose those who offend it. In 1998, the NRA spent $1.5 million lobbying Congress and contributed more than $4 million to congressional campaigns.

No one knows with real precision how many guns are privately owned in America. Federal law prohibits comprehensive government databases. A generally respected study estimated 192 million privately owned firearms in America; other studies calculate higher numbers - one as high as 235 million privately own guns.

Is this too many? Can anything be done to stop this politiccal football from being kicked around and remove these guns from the street??Is the NRA too strong?
You fool guns don't have a mind that decides on its own to up and kill people. Guns are just tools used by the deranged or criminal to use against others. Gun will never go away for the criminal. Only the law abiding individual will abide by the law leaving him at the mercy of the criminal.

Law enforcement can only respond when informed of a situation. Your protection is in your hands until help can arrive. Only the fear motivated wimp afraid to fight would think society is safe if the citizenry is disarmed.

If you want to do a greater good try getting rid of all lobbyist in this country not just a particular lobby group. When corporations and politics mix rest assure it will be the consumer to get screwed in the end.Is the NRA too strong?
The NRA seems to be one of the few groups that have an interest in preserving the Constitution. Guns are not the problem, the problem are people who use them irresponsibly. The founding fathers put the Second Amendment in the Constitution for a reason. Is the NRA too strong?
No. Argue all you want, but it's the right to bear arms.

If someone wants to kill a lot of people, there are other ways. Remember 911? Taking all the guns off "the streets" won't stop someone who is determined, fanatical and/or insane.
Give it a rest. This is the price you pay to live in a free society.
