OUR PRISONS: Are they tough enough?

When someone goes to prison they can expect 6 visits a month from loved ones, unlimited cash to be sent in, earn a wage from working within the prison, have up to 10 numbers on a phonecard to phone people outside daily. They have a kettle in their cell to make a cuppa when they wish, can shop from the Argos catalogue to make their room cosy, duvet, curtains, rugs, towels etc. They each have a tv and can get dvds to watch. Theres a nice plasma tv in the association rooms, with pool tables, football and rugby teams to join. They get free board and menus to choose their meals from. Then theres the Christmas menu with choices of turkey, steak etc with all the trimmings. They are issued with new clothes and can be sent in the latest trainers, football boots etc. Their rooms are nicely heated this winter when many who have done no wrong cannot afford to keep warm this winter. Its no wonder the stastistics for those returning are very high. They have access to lawyers and the best medical care. Is this REALLY punishment?? What should be done to make it harder and for the crime rates to drop by making people afraid to go to prison?OUR PRISONS: Are they tough enough?
Sure Dick, (the first responder) we'll just educate people that crime is wrong. I wonder where he lives? Anyway. As time progresses and a prisoner displays his inability not to be trusted and continues to violate rules and regulations in the prison, more of those rights are removed. If he is truly unruly or is a threat to employees or other prisoners, he can be detained in an isolation cell with nothing - not even a window. I don't know how many end up in isolation, but probably not as many as there should be. Inmates killing inmates is still a problem. We should just have Dick educate them I guess.OUR PRISONS: Are they tough enough?
Yes, even too tough. In order to prevent people from committing criminal acts, people should be educated that violence is (at least most of the time) wrong, and that wars are not the only way to solve problems. And the most important thing of all is, that US politicians and soldiers who committed war crimes should not be immune from persecution, because might is not necessarily right.
