Ref was right to chalk off penalty after all?

like everyone with half a brain already knew

AT its scheduled meeting today at Hampden Park, the Scottish FA’s Referee Committee considered the report from the chief executive, Stewart Regan, into the circumstances surrounding the awarding of a penalty kick to Celtic in the recent Clydesdale Bank Premier League match against Dundee United, and the subsequent overturning of that award.

The committee reached a unanimous view that the overturning of the original decision was correct. The match referee, Dougie McDonald, was present at today’s meeting and admitted that after having blown for an infringement he immediately realised that he may have made an error.

As is appropriate in these circumstances, Dougie, unprompted, decided to approach the assistant referee, Steven Craven, who had assumed the required position for the taking of the penalty. Dougie then asked Steven if he had seen the Dundee United goalkeeper, Dusan Pernis, touch the ball first and Steven confirmed that, in his opinion, the goalkeeper had.

Dougie then communicated to the players that he had made a mistake and restarted the game with a drop-ball, as per the Laws of the Game.

In addition, the investigation identified that the post-match administrative process was not completed to the expected standard. The committee agreed with this point and Dougie has accepted his responsibility in this regard. It should also be noted that, while Dougie ultimately arrived at the correct decision during the match, he was marked-down for the error in awarding a penalty in the first instance in the observer’s report.

Stewart Regan, Scottish FA chief executive: “Following Steven Craven’s resignation and the circumstances surrounding the overturning of the penalty decision in the match, it was important to thoroughly investigate the matter. I am satisfied with the outcome of today’s meeting and the clarity of the findings.”

Martin Cryans, Chairman of the Scottish Senior Football Referees’ Association: “The pressure placed on referees has intensified in this country in recent years and the last few weeks have highlighted the immense strain placed on our top officials and their families.

“The aim now for the SSFRA is to work in tandem with Stewart Regan to help develop a respect initiative.”

should lennon be fined for mouthing off in such an unjustified manner, and for trying to imitate collum?|||Good its about time the SFA stopped favouring celtic.|||'Jim Farry' showed how corrupt they are

Stand up for what is right Lenny. Hail Hail !|||yes the usual cover up as per usual

did we see craven was chukking it at xmas anyhoo.

stokes abused at home.ach well we canny moan eh.joke|||Who cares?|||Now let the hoops fans put this to bed, some hope!|||great..can ranges fans stop going on about it now?|||Must agree it was never a penalty like broadfoots ballet dancing last week ,will the SFA now admit their official messed up last Sunday and award a yellow card to broadfoot for diving ,me thinks not ,maybe to you would like to comment on the abuse dished out to Anthony Stokes since most Rangers fans have been quick to attack lennon and the whole Celtic board and fans over the Tannadice incident ,as for this Lurgan Biggot tag ,its amazing fans off a club whos players sign autographs FTP ,seem to forget Rangers discriminated against catholics for nearly 90 years ,long knives and short memories|||Any manager would have questioned the decision to overturn the penalty award. When was the last time a ref awarded a pen and then changed his mind? As far as intimidating Collum, all Lennon asked was that he get the big decisions right...I'm sue all managers want that. Collum failed by not sending off Stokes and McCulloch and awarding Rangers a penalty.

I am not a fan of either old firm team|||penaltys are always open 2 debate and scrutiny gordon, thats half the fun of them m8 lol just because the SFA say no penalty doesnt mean it wasnt a penalty, they re fallible just like the rest of us you know. i guess what am trying 2 say is, it STILL was a penalty in my eyes, i know if i was the ref that day, i would have awarded celtic a penalty, and i say that without an ounce of shame or remorse hehe lol|||all the diddys will still be thinkin the lurgan bigot was right...and while 'fans' hang onto his every word he will continue to spout...personally i find it hilarious.....they are a laughing stock

don't think so T your quick enough to point out our failings so i will do like wise..your manager spat on a rangers scarf and called us orange bastards..he is a bigot...as for looking at broadfoots dive..aye it was soft..maybe he also look at all the **** your players got away with whilst they are there then..maybe smith should question why samaras got away with a deliberate knee to mcgregors head...then again maybe the establishment did us a favour by not taking any action against the greek

look T if you want to be petty and rake things up we can do it all night..all the way back to the lisbon lions......we both know it....mark walters...john hartson and neil lennons sing songs..etc etc etc|||Good to see the issue put to bed. As for Broadfoot's penalty I doubt anything will happen there as the SFA wont want to undermine the referee, no doubt some Celtic fans will see this as bias against them but IMO its not true.
