Given the likelihood that FIFA have come out and said they will implement a 'trial period' for this technology only as an exercise in placating the calls from all sides to do so, should the FA go ahead and put the technology in place right now, regardless of whether FIFA considers their own tests to be 'successful'?
Knowing FIFA's previous (and most likely also current) stance on this subject to be one of reluctance, I believe the FA should introduce technology into the English game immediately, as a massive 'fvck you' to FIFA... not unlike the 'fvck you' that FIFA gave the FA in the recent World Cup bidding process.
The FA is the oldest football association in the game. They gave the game to the world, is it now time for them to improve it?|||Goal line decisions are the worst area of reffing in general. I saw a cross that was ruled to have gone out in the Cardiff game but you could see it hadn't, and the linesman was standing right by the corner flag too. The thing that annoyed me about the Lampard goal in the world cup is that if a ball hits the bar and bounces back to hit the bar again, it must have gone over the line because of the backspin. I knew straight away.
I think PL games should have a video ref who is above the match ref. This would avoid the match ref being made to look foolish when over-ruled. If there is a controversial call the video ref can speak to the match ref and hold the game while he investigates. Plus he can refer to anything off the ball that was unseen. There is a few problems with the way matches are televised that would need ironing out, but a video ref would have seen the Vidic handball and Gomes recover the ball.
I think offside decisions should be left alone though as the general standard of linesman in this area is very good and could lead to a 'if it's wrong the video ref will over-rule' and 'what's the point of me being here?' attitude amongst assistants. Plus if something's wrongly called offside the ref has seen the flag and blown, so what do you do there?. So I would leave all off-side decisions as unchangeable.|||Don't know why they are faffing about with the whole issue... human error has no place in football, simple as... unless you believe in some "Supernatural" force correcting all the decisions eventually.... ;)
I actually heard that tests have been done... and showed positive results... yet they were "stopped" for some unknown reason...
Agree with you, the FA SHOULD introduce it... we've been buggered by FIFA loads of times so fvck 'em... but the FA won't... they need to grow some spines first...|||Sepp Blatter ruined the 2010 world cup by not allowing it to be introduced there.
Did you see how many times we had drama in games ?
If we don't have G.L.T by 2014 then it would be a big slap on our faces and I'd know then that FIFA is doing what needs to be done to give the strongest nations every possibility to reach far stages and nto the average nations.|||Given the obscene amounts of money that change hands in football at the top level these days, where even a small error in a decision can mean millions to a club, I think it's time this technology was introduced - and the sooner the better !|||Yeah it's time to get it sorted,I dunno why they're so reluctant. They seem to be worried about the time it'll take to review the incidents but it only takes a couple of minutes max. Seems to work for the NFL and tennis.
P.S ello Fury|||No, what would happen in grass roots football.
Leave it the way it is.|||Yes but a certain person doesn't want it?|||YES THEY SHOULD
