What is the history of Football (Soccer) shirt numbers in Eastern Europe?

Right, this one's a bit heavy.

I've noticed that in some Eastern European countries the associations with some numbers are different. For example, playmakers tend to wear the No. 9; central midfielders the No. 5 and so on. Is this just coincidence or did the positions evolve differently to the rest of the world? My initial guess was that it was to do with the Hungary team of the 50's, but then I read that numbers weren't introduced to Russia until relatively recently.

If you've read this and are still awake, then please help someone with too much time on their hands!|||I just thought as the goalkeeper was given the shirt number one then the team would go through like that. Quite a hard qeuestion i'll look into it and edit my answer.
