Why do the powers that be at the top of the Scottish, English and even the Welsh football associations not unite in order that we have a joint bid to host the World Cup? Apparently the decision makers have expressed reservations regarding the quantity of top level hotels and training facilities in England. Russia, it seems are the other main contenders, with Holland and Belgium's joint bid being in the mix too. My point is: Scotland and England are the two oldest footballing nations in the world and have some of the biggest clubs in the world. We have collectively, some of the best stadiums in the world too and some of the most enthusiastic football fans the world has to offer. So why go it alone England? Together we have Hampden stadium, Wembley, Celtic Park, Ibrox, Anfield, Old Trafford, Highbury, Millenium Stadium (in Wales), and so many more TOP stadia that it seems preposterous for the bid for the World Cup to be England's on their own. There are many top training grounds such as Celtic's Lennoxtown, Rangers' Murray Park, Man Utd's Carrington etc, etc, etc, and there are several top level hotels and country houses for the participating teams, such as Cameron House on the banks of Loch Lomond, to name but one, that it seems folly not to unite the British Isles mainland in the pursuit of this World Cup bid. If Holland and Belgium can compile a joint bid surely to God we, here in the home of football, can do the same. Also, surely if we did, it would give us a greater chance of winning the bid.
I'm aware that there may be some pit-falls, such as the transport system in Glasgow which is shambolic in term of the subway and congested roads. But surely if the burden of human traffic was spread appropriately throughout the British Isles we could come to a proper solution.
For example, the two semi-finals could be played at Celtic Park or Ibrox or Hampden, or the Millenium stadium, and the final could be hosted at Wembley since this has the largest capacity.
IT MAKES SENSE TO UNITE THE BID.
Your thoughts. Why are England going it alone with their World Cup bid?
"reservations regarding the quantity of top level hotels and training facilities in England"
Out of all the countries bidding we are the most modern / technologically advanced country, I'm pretty sure we have far greater hotel and training facilities than Russia, Spain and Belgium combined...We have some of the best hotels and stadia in europe...no offence but Scotland doesn't really bring much to the table nor do Wales.....we'll be fine on our own thanks.
whats the piont it would be like the union. England dragging the rest along. we have the Ritz then we have the best stadiums in the world why not go it alone. Why are England going it alone with their World Cup bid?
LMFAO @ your name. For a second I thought you were a Chelsea fan...
As per your Q, I doubt many English share in your enthusiasm...
I doubt most foreigners have even heard of Wales and Scotland. No offence. Why are England going it alone with their World Cup bid?
After Japan-Korea 2002 FIFA stated they were not keen on dual bids, mainly to do problems with the travelling between the two countries. Plus England now has enough big all-seater venues to host the event on its own. Scotland and Wales are part of UK so travel difficulties not really a big issue but other countries would complain about three host teams gaining entry and NI would be unhappy left to go it alone in the qualifiers.
